THIS one-club man stands fifth in the Boro all-time scorer list with 162 goals despite the outbreak of the Second World War limiting his total appearances to 269 in a playing career spanning nearly 17 years.

Short and slightly built for a striker, Fenton made his debut in 1933 and gradually went on to replace George Camsell as Boro's leading marksman gaining a solitary England cap against Scotland in 1938.

When he returned to Boro after the war, Fenton was in his early 30s but defied any doubters by top scoring for the next three seasons. The club clearly benefited from the loyalty of one of the most natural goalscorers of his era.

Despite being wanted by Everton, Fenton decided to see out his playing days on Teesside, making his final appearance for Boro in January 1950 before joining the backroom staff.

Micky died in Stockton in 2003 aged 89.
