BORO are linked with two Austrian internationals in a number of newspaper reports as the summer transfer speculation gets underway early.

The People says Boro have made a shock move for Graz AK midfielder RENE AUFHAUSER, claiming a scout from the club was present as he scored his country's winner against Wales. He can also play at centre-back as well as going forward.

But The Star says Boro have agreed a £1.5m deal for 22-year-old defender EMANUEL POGATETZ, who plays for Bayer Leverkusen but was on loan at GAK when Boro played the Austrian champions earlier this season.

Pogatetz has since been on loan at Spartak Moscow but the paper says he jumped at the move to Boro.

The Star also says Boro and Spurs will battle it out for the signature of England midfielder OWEN HARGREAVES, who could be available for £3m as he has just one year remaining on his contract at Bayern Munich.

"I still have a yearning to play in the Premiership and one day I will realise that," he said. Bolton could also be keen.

Steve McClaren wants BOLO ZENDEN to stay at the club, according to the same player.

"I wanted him to sign a long-term deal last summer," he said. "I wanted to do the same in January and I still do."

Palmeiras are said to have beaten Santos in the race to sign Boro legend JUNINHO, who has been released by Celtic.

Fellow Brazil international DORIVA tells the Sunday Sun he would like to stay with Boro after his contract runs out in the summer.

Many apers report that FRANCK QUEUDRUE could be in line to play for ireland, although in fact he is ineligible.
