A ROUND-UP of all the Boro news in the weekend's papers, including the England ace linked with a move to the Riverside.

TRANSFER AND TEAM TALK

Daily Star: Steve McClaren is poised to swoop for Manchester United's GARY NEVILLE. The stumbling block is the fact that the England utility player signed a five-year contract only 12 months ago but that should not be a problem.

Sunday Sun: BRAD JONES has vowed to fight for his first team place but admitted his first team future may lie away from the Riverside. "If Schwarzy continues like this and continues playing like he has the last few season then I might have to go somewhere else at that time."

Sunday People: FRANCK QUEUDRUE will leave if the right offer comes along. "I feel at ease at Middlesbrough but we will think about it if attractive offers come. Raymond Domenech (the French team coach) only goes and watches the big teams with the big players."

News of the World: Liverpool and Paris St Germain are are both chasing Franck Queudrue.

Gazette: Boro face a battle to keep Franck Queudrue after he admitted he would consider leaving to improve his international prospects.

Sunday Mirror: GEORGE BOATENG hopes Boro can avoid the Intertoto Cup. "I've been there twice and by January you have to go and buy a new pair of legs."

ROBBO'S RETURN

Times: STEVE GIBSON revealed he spoke to West Brom chairman Jeremy Peace before the appointment of Bryan Robson to The Hawthorns' hotseat. "I told him the truth. I told him exactly how it was when Bryan was with us because the contribution he made to our development was really, really important. Sometimes that's overlooked but it shouldn't be. People say that bringing Terry Venables in was a sign of weakness but I took it as a sign of Bryan's strength of character."

Northern Echo: CRAIG HIGNETT on Robbo: "Looking back I don't think we had a great team spirit. I think we just had great players and there's a difference."

THE WEST BROM GAME

Sunday Telegraph: "His last memories of stepping out here had been against a soundtrack of jeers but West Brom's manager would gladly have swapped the standing ovation, which was slightly guilty, that greeted him yesterday for a cacophony of boos and three points.

"There was a definite sign of déjà vu about the disconsolate suited figure standing head bowed in the technical area."

Sunday People: "If ever a player had something to prove it was Nemeth, and in scoring twice and creating a third in a breathtaking nine-minute spell around the half-hour mark, he could hardly have done more."

Sunday Mirror: "It sounds incredible when you look at the scoreline but Albion will feel they could have picked up at least a point if they had taken their chances before that three-goal blast."

News of the World: "The scoreline flattered Boro as it was not a vintage performance from them. Had it not been for keeper Brad Jones it could have been very different. He made a series of wonderful saves to dent West Brom's survival hopes."

Sunday Express: "McClaren may talk of the Intertoto Cup but seventh spot can still be theirs."

Observer: "Albion lacked the self belief to recover from that setback (the first goal) despite the fact they had controlled the game up to that point."

Independent: "There's little room for sentiment. Beyond three cup finals and two promotions, Robson's finest achievement at Boro is the superb training facilities he persuaded chairman Steve Gibson to finance."

The Times: "(STEWART DOWNING'S) form has dropped of late but it has been a long initiation for the youngster and he evinced his class with two perfect crosses and his late goal from a 25-yard free-kick."

The Guardian: SZILARD NEMETH said: "I met Bryan when I signed here in May but when I came back for training in July he was gone, which was disappointing. I hope West Brom stay up because he brought me into English football."

The Daily Star: Szilard Nemeth: "I was also talking to Sunderland at the time but they just wanted to talk and kept changing their minds, whereas Boro wanted to sign me straight away. I knew about (Bryan Robson's) history as England captain and that was a big factor in my decision to come to Middlesbrough."
