BORO sponsor 888.com presented Colin and Julie Cooper with a giant cheque for £888 towards the Finlay Cooper Fund at the Chelsea game.

The firm's UK sports marketing manager Rob Mitchell presented the family with the cheque on the back of the penalty shoot-out bonanza held during the veteran defender's benefit match against Chievo.

A number of former Boro stars including Robbie Mustoe, Steve Vickers and Curtis Fleming, as well as Boro fan and pop singer Alistair Griffin, joined Colin Cooper to take part in a penalty shoot out at half-time as Boro played their final friendly match in the build up to the new season.

The Finlay Cooper Fund, set up in memory of Colin Cooper's two-year old son who tragically died four years ago, will help a number of charities and good causes, including Middlesbrough's Butterwick Hospice, which cares for terminally-ill youngsters.

Rob said: "888.com is delighted to support the Finlay Cooper Fund, and I hope this cheque will go a long way to help charities in the local area.

"Colin Cooper has been a fantastic servant to Middlesbrough Football Club and we wish him every success in his new role this season as Reserve Team coach at the Riverside."
