UP THE BORO! The Comeback Kings
IN the third part of our Up The Boro series, focussing on some of the club's most memorable promotion seasons, we look back at the 1928/29 championship campaign.
THE STORY OF THE SEASON
After just one season in the top flight and despite another 33 goals from George Camsell and 19 from Billy Pease, Boro found themselves back in the second division, having conceded 88 goals in 42 league games.
But after another slow start they picked themselves up to lead the table by January and they remained in the top two for the remainder of the campaign.
One of Boro's most impressive performers was wing-half Joe Peacock, signed from Everton by new boss Peter McWilliam.
Camsell and Pease were as consistent as ever, bagging 57 league goals between them as Boro returned to Division One as champions once again.
