STRIKER Afonso Alves has completed his transfer to Qatar club Al Sadd.

The two clubs last week agreed a fee for the 28-year-old striker, who was Boro's record signing from Heerenveen in January 2008.

Al Sadd have confirmed that the Brazil international has signed a three-year contract.

Alves is recovering from a foot injury and has not figured in the Boro first team this season.  

A prolific goalscorer in Holland, he failed to reproduce that form in England, scoring 13 goals in 37 league and cup starts and 12 appearances as a substitute.
