Leroy Claiming Boro Brace
LEROY LITA was claiming BOTH goals on his return to the Madejski Stadium, insisting he got the last touch on the first half effort initially credited to Sean St Ledger.
The Congo-born striker says the ball went in off his chest after St Ledger headed Adam Johnson's pinpoint corner goalwards.
"I'm not claiming the first goal - it's my goal!" said the 24-year-old conclusively.
There was no dispute about the second goal, which was applauded by home and visiting fans alike after a decisive finish.
However, his view of the first goal firmly given, Lita was then quick to share the credit for the victory with his team-mates.
"I scored the goals but the team performance is the most important thing," he said.
Lita left the Royals in the summer and memories of his many goals in a Reading shirt were clearly fresh in the memory for both player and fans.
"I had a great time here," he said. "I played in the best team in the club's history so I'm thankful for the reception and I wish this club, the fans and the manager all the best.
"I want them to do well apart from against Boro."
Boro now need to start repeating their sparkling away form at the Riverside, with two home games in quick succession after the international break.
"We've done well so far this season but Tuesday wasn't good enough," Lita admitted.
"Nothing is going to be decided in October and everyone has to be patient. Our away fans were superb today and we need that at home as well."
