AMBITIOUS five-piece Dirty Weekend are the latest band through to the Riverside Rocks final after winning the second round of voting on mfc.co.uk.

The band, who entertained fans ahead of the Plymouth game, have performed more than 150 gigs in the last couple of years, even playing at Glastonbury.

Dirty Weekend - whose influences include King Crimson and Oasis - took more than half of the votes with a total of 52.2% to see off rivals God's Own Prototype (23.5%), 21 Reasons (13.5%) and Jimmy Bullet (9.7%).

Boro-loving blues-rock band The Princes of Monte Carlo
were the first band to reach the final after winning the previous round of voting.

The four-piece, who kicked-off our pre-match programme in fine style ahead of the Doncaster Rovers game back in August, polled 48.9%, beating Be Quiet Shout Loud (27.8%), 3 Foot Ninja (15.1%) and Penny Black (8.2%).

Both bands go through for an end-of-season vote in which the fans will choose the overall winner of the Riverside Rocks trophy.

Boro are showcasing the cream of local bands in the West Stand Car Park, outside the Ayresome Park Gates and in the shadow of the statues dedicated to legends George Hardwick and Wilf Mannion, before games throughout the season.

Supported by northeastlive.net and Fly Me To The Moon, the pre-match shows have proved a big hit with fans.

They are part of the ongoing MFC Experience, a feedback platform created to improve matchdays at the Riverside, promote better communication with supporters and give fans a stake in many club decisions.

Boro's Head of Supporter Services Anthony Emmerson said of the initiative: "We want to make the Riverside as vibrant as possible and we're delighted to have added quality bands to our matchday entertainment."
