Aitor Karanka was delighted to come with a win from Thursday’s friendly work-out at the Stadium of Light as Boro beat Sunderland 2-1.
The Boro Head Coach was pleased to have won the game, but admitted that the emphasis was on a good match-session for his players as the season approaches its conclusion.
“I think it was a good training session,” said Karanka. “Yes it was a game against Sunderland but it was important for the players who are not playing at the moment.
“It was good that we had no serious injuries, just Kike Sola had a problem with his knee but nothing serious. I’m really pleased because the players worked hard and we won.
“For me, the last thing was the result. I wanted to finish the game with no injuries because we’re now just a month away from the end of the season.
“So once again, everything was perfect other than the little problem with Kike.”
and Jordan Rhodes
both scored against Sunderland and Karanka says the goals were good for his strikers’ confidence ahead of the final push for promotion.
“It was a friendly game but as a striker you always want to score,” said Karanka.
“It was important for them for their confidence and it’s good for the future to have them all ready to play.
“We have nine games to go, it’s the last month and it’s the last push.”
