The uniquely-designed former service bus has been transformed into a mobile football themed Health Bus.
All around the Health Bus there are displays which give information on the consequences of lifestyle choices such as inactivity, obesity, smoking and alcohol.
In addition to this, the Health Bus is packed full of exercise and fitness testing equipment which can be used to carry out health checks or allow people to take part in physical activity.
There are also an interactive whiteboard and Nintendo Wii games consoles on board that allow people to take part in a host of activities aimed at burning calories, improving balance and coordination and having fun!
This year Middlesbrough Football Club Foundation are offering a new course for KS2 pupils that takes place on the Bus. It is flexible and can be offered as a one-day, three-week or six-week course covering the following areas…
*Raising awareness of the human body, its vital organs, functions and systems.
*Improving knowledge of how lifestyles affect the body and its functions.
*Increasing awareness of nutritional factors.
*Raising awareness of risks to the body associated with smoking and drugs.
The course is a combination of theory and practical activities. As the course is part funded through the NHS, we can offer it to schools for £250.
Partners of the Health Bus include Middlesbrough, Redcar and Cleveland and Stockton-on-Tees Primary Care Trusts, Onyx, Promethean and Arriva.
