EXPERIENCED Wales international goalkeeper Danny Coyne signed on a free transfer from Tranmere in summer 2009.

Danny, who has 16 full caps, signed a two-year Boro contract and penned a further year's extension in summer 2010.

By the end of the 2010/11 season he had made 499 appearances in a career that has taken in Grimsby, Leicester, Burnley and two spells with Tranmere.

He made 39 League One appearances during the 2008/09 season as Tranmere narrowly missed out on reaching the promotion play-offs. He kept 20 clean sheets in all competitions.

Boro manager Gareth Southgate said he had signed Coyne to challenge Australia international Brad Jones and England Under-19 goalkeeper Jason Steele.

He began his Boro career with a record-equalling start to the season of four clean sheets in four games, his debut coming in the opening game of the 2009/10 season in a goalless draw with Sheffield United at the Riverside.

Danny began the 2010/11 season as first choice keeper after Brad Jones's departure to Liverpool, but made just one appearance as Steele was given his chance by Gordon Strachan and continued to be first choice under his successor, Tony Mowbray.

When Steele was injured in March, Paul Smith was brought in on loan from Nottingham Forest at the end of the 2010-11 season and Wolves' Carl Ikeme arrive at the start of 2011-12..

Although first team appearances have become rare, he excelled when called upon in the Carling Cup and made a memorable double save in the second round win at Peterborough in August 2011.

Danny is taking his coaching badges and has helped out at Academy and Reserve team level.
