David Atkinson

SHILDON-BORN defender David bounced back from a series of serious injuries to earn a place in Aitor Karanka's first team squad late in the 2013/14 season.

An England youth international, powerfully-built David has been with Boro since he was an under-nine player and has excellent defensive qualities. He can play anywhere in the back four and has also featured in midfield on occasions. Hs progress was rewarded with a four-year pro contract which started on July 1 2010, although he spent a long spell out with a back injury. A serious knee injury sustained at the end of the 2011/12 season kept him out of action but he recovered to take his place in Boro's U21 squad before being named on the bench for several Sky Bet Championship games.

Ryan Brobbel

Status: Young professional

A REAL Academy success story, Ryan started with Boro as a youngster but took some time out at Under-12 and Under-13 level to develop. He returned to join the Under-14s and progressed very quickly into an excellent technical player. 

Hartlepool-born Ryan is an influential figure wherever he plays across the midfield. He is eligible to represent England, the Republic of Ireland or Northern Ireland and has been on training camps with both Irish teams. His continued progress was rewarded with a three-year pro contract in May 2011, taking him through to the summer of 2014. Ryan was loaned to League Two York City in September 2013 and in his time there made 13 appearances, scoring three goals. He returned from loan and was named on the bench for the Middlesbrough first team against Doncaster on February 1 2013.

Andre Bennett

ANDRE is a versatile midfielder or defender. His father Gary, a Sunderland playing legend, is now coach of the Academy's under-12s side. 

Gary played 369 league games as a centre-back for Sunderland, while also having spells with Darlington, Carlisle and Scarborough. And Andre's uncle Dave scored along with Middlesbrough-born Keith Houchen when Coventry beat Tottenham in the 1987 FA Cup final. Andre broke into Jamie Clapham's Boro U21 side early in the 2012/13 season and was drafted into the first team squad in January 2013.

Christian Burgess
Defender

BORO completed the signing of University of Birmingham student Christian in summer 2012 following successful trials at Rockliffe Park. The promising centre-half agreed a two-year contract after impressing for Boro's development squad late in the 2011-12 campaign. 

Christian played in a handful of development games after being spotted in universities football. The 6ft 4ins defender was born in Essex and spent four years in Arsenal's Academy before a short spell in the youth and reserves ranks with Conference South side Bishops Stortford. He has also had trials with his boyhood idols, West Ham, and Spurs. Christian was named in the Boro squad for the Championship game at Derby County in January 2013 and retained his place for the FA Cup third round game against Hastings United four days later. He made his league debut in the 2-0 defeat at Sheffield Wednesday on the final day of the 2012/3 campaign. He spent the 2013/14 campaign on loan at Boro’s League Two neighbours Hartlepool United where he was a regular starter, making 37 league appearances.

BORO signed Jonathan from Sunderland, initially as a scholar. He was awarded a professional contract in summer 2014.

Luke Coddington
Goalkeeper

Date of birth: June 6 1995
Status: Young professional 

LUKE'S father Matthew was a goalkeeper for the club's reserves while his grandfather John was the club's first team coach under John Neal, Bobby Murdoch and Willie Maddren after a playing career with Huddersfield, Blackburn and Stockport. 

Middlesbrough-born Luke, who has trained with Boro since he was just nine years old, has represented England at U17, U18 and U19 levels. A former Nunthorpe School pupil, he was part of the England team that won the Algarve Tournament in summer 2012 and qualified for the UEFA U19 Championship elite qualifying group.

Callum Cooke

EXCITING forward Callum began playing for East Durham and was scouted by Boro as an eight-year-old. 

He is an England U17 international and scored twice on his debut against Northern Ireland. He loves to dribble and score goals after breaking from midfield.

Bradley Fewster
Striker

Status: Young professional

BORN in Middlesbrough, England U18 international Bradley currently lives in Ingleby Barwick. 

He successfully broke into Jamie Clapham's U21 team during the 2012/13 season, scoring several vital goals. His progress was rewarded with a three-year professional contract in summer 2013.

Joseph Fryer

JOSEPH, who comes from Chester-le-Street, was a former pupil of St Leonard's School, which has a strong history of links with the Academy.

Bradley Halliday
Midfielder

Date of birth: July 10 1995
Status: Young professional

MIDFIELDER Bradley joined Boro on a professional contract in summer 2013 after impressing during a trial. Born in Redcar, he was previously with the Academy as a younger player and the club have monitored his progress since then. 

He soon established himself as an important member of Jamie Clapham’s U21 side.

Mark Kitching

Status:Young professional

A MIDDLESBROUGH lad, Mark is in his ninth season at the Academy. He is a Boro Season Card holder and describes himself as a true fan. 

He was outstanding as Boro U18s completed an unbeaten trip to Holland in summer 2013. After breaking into the first team squad late in 2013/14, he was awarded a pro contract at the end of the season.

Jordan Jones
Midfield/forward

Date of birth: October 24 1994
Status: Young professional

JORDAN was born in Middlesbrough and lives in Redcar. A midfielder or striker, he is described by Dave Parnaby as a "very exciting, individual-type of player".  

Jordan, who attended Redcar's Sacred Heart School, has represented Northern Ireland U17s and been named in U19 squads, as his father was born in Belfast. He made his first team debut as a substitute in the 4-1 FA Cup third round win over Hastings in January 2013.

Bryn Morris

AT 16 years and 254 days, Bryn became the club's third youngest first team player when he replaced Merouane Zemmama with eight minutes remaining of Boro's 4-1 FA Cup with Budweiser victory over Hastings United at the Riverside in January 2013. 

He followed that up with an impressive 30-minute cameo at Hillsborough on the final day of the campaign. Highly-rated Bryn, who comes from Hartlepool, can play in midfield or central defence and has skippered England at U16 and U17 level and represented the U18 and U19 side.His progress was rewarded with a three-year professional contract in summer 2013.

SPEEDY winger Jimmy, from Bishop Auckland, joined the Academy from his hometown team Willington Juniors after impressing during trials. He missed much of the 2013/14 campaign after suffering a serious knee injury during training. 

However, he bounced back and was awarded his first pro contract in summer 2014.

KIERAN, from Coulby Newham, Middlesbrough, joined Boro after a spell with Darlington when the Academy's recruitment department spotted his potential as a defender. 

Aberdeen-born Kieran attended King's Academy in Middlesbrough. He was awarded a professional contract in summer 2013.

Charlie Wyke
Striker

Status: Young professional

A VERY adaptable player, Middlesbrough-born Charlie usually operates as a striker but can also play in midfield. A very good technician with a sound football brain, he is able to adjust his game according to the circumstances to pose a threat in any of those forward positions. 

However, he showed his striking prowess during the 2010-11 FA Youth Cup campaign, scoring in successive rounds against Everton, Nottingham Forest and Aston Villa as Boro progressed to the quarter-finals. After scoring close to 30 goals in all competitions during the 2010-11 season, he was rewarded with a three-year pro contract in May 2011, taking him through to the summer of 2014. He spent a spell on loan at Hartlepool United during the 2012/13 season, scoring twice in 25 league games, and a period with AFC Wimbledon during 2013/14, where he scored twice in 16 league appearances.

BORN and brought up in Newcastle, Scott came late into the Academy as an U16 schoolboy but has quickly made himself at home.

Matthew Elsdon

FORMER Sunderland AFC schoolboy Matthew is an England U17 international who is based in Chester-le-Street. A classy central defender, he likes to play out from the back with the ball.

Dael Fry
Centre-back

Birthplace: Middlesbrough 
Date of birth: August 30 1997
Status: Second year

DAEL started at the age of five for Cleveland Juniors and was scouted by Boro at the age of nine. One of his proudest moments was beating Ajax 2-1 in Holland in summer 2013. 

A tall centre-half who loves defending, he is also a big threat from set pieces. He has represented England at U17 level and was part of the squad that won the European U17 Championship by beating Holland on penalties in summer 2014. 

Jonathan Helm
Full-back

Birthplace: Stokesley 
Date of birth: May 27 1997
Status: Second year

AN ATTACKING full-back who likes to use his pace to get forward, Jonathan started playing football at the age of six with Stokesley and Middlesbrough Development Centre. 

After four years with the MFC Academy he was released and played at Marton FC for three years, as well as training with Aston Villa for a year. He joined Boro at U16 level and has represented England at U17 level.

Callum Johnson

CALLUM is in his eighth season with Boro after being scouted while playing for Boro Rangers as an eight-year-old. 

A firm tackler with a good engine, Callum is known for the quality and range of his passing, as well as his excellent ball retention.

Jordan Jowers

STRIKER Jordan likes to drop off and play behind the main forward, hold the ball up and bring others into play. 

He began with Coulby Newham as a five-year-old and move to Marton Hall Drive at the age of 12, before being recruited by Boro as a U14 player. Fiercely proud to represent his hometown, Jordan was delighted that his entire U16 group received scholarships after an excellent campaign.

A CLEVER and tricky player, Junior loves to take people on, whether he's operating as a midfielder or up front. 

He began playing football at the age of six and a schoolboy he represented South Park, Boro Rangers and Marton FC. He was scouted by Boro at the age of 11 and has been on standby for the England U17 squad.

VERSATILE Nathan, who can play right-back or a midfield role, joined Boro from St Mary's at the age of 13. 

Excellent at getting up and down the wing, he works hard for the team and is also known for his accurate crossing, as well as his one-on-one defending.

MORE known for the defensive side of his game than his attacking, Josef is a good passer who likes a tackle.
