Adam Clayton is a product of the Manchester City Academy where he signed at the age of seven.

Adam Clayton is a product of the Manchester City Academy where he signed at the age of seven. 

Clayton signed his first professional contract with Man City in 2007 but was loaned out to Carlisle United and then Leeds United.

He signed for Leeds United in 2010, but moved to Huddersfield Town in 2012 where he was given the Player of the Year Award in the 2013-14 season.

Clayton joined Middlesbrough on a four year deal in August 2014. 

During the 2015-16 season, the combative midfielder was named Sky Bet Championship Player of the Month for December following a string of fine performances.

At the end of the campaign, in which Boro won promotion to the top flight, Sky pundit Don Goodman would name Clayton his Championship Player of the Year.
