Fabio da Silva was born and raised in Petropolis, a mountain town located a short journey from Rio de Janeiro in the South East of Brazil.

Fabio and his identical brother, Rafael, began their careers with Fluminense in their native Brazil before being signed by Manchester United in February 2007.

Despite both twins being right-footed, Fabio is more accustomed to playing at left-back – although he can play anywhere along the backline.

Fabio spent time on loan at Queens Park Rangers before joining Cardiff City in 2014.

A fan favourite at the South Wales club, Boro fans will remember Fabio’s only goal for The Bluebirds. The defender scored a superb 25-yard goal on the half volley during the 2015-16 season at the Riverside.

The Brazilian full-back joined Boro in August 2016 on a 2-year deal.

Fabio has played internationally for the Brazilian Under-17 team, and was captain of the Brazil team for the 2007 FIFA U17 World Cup. Despite being a defender, he scored 10 goals in his 13 appearances. He has earned two senior caps since his full international debut in 2011.
