A former goalkeeper for Middlesbrough Swifts, the club's Reserve side. Gainford-born Robson, widely known as Jack, accepted the role of secretary-manager on the club's election to the Football League.
He was paid £156 per year and as an economy measure did not travel to away games.
He successfully turned the team from Northern League amateurs to second division standard.
Jack went on to run the first teams at Crystal Palace and Manchester United.
He sadly passed away from pneumonia on January 11 1922.
