Acclaimed cartoonist Graeme Bandeira’s illustrations of Britain’s political figures and leading news stories have gained national exposure.

Cartoonist at the Yorkshire Post for over two decades, Bandeira’s creations are more likely to feature Boris Johnson than the Boro. However, the Harrogate-based artist has still found time to create an impressive body of work featuring Middlesbrough FC.

Bandy’s work in Art of Ayresome is shaped by his own experiences of following the club since 1982, including a view from the Holgate of Boro’s last league goal at their former home. Bandeira’s most recent Ayresome-inspired creation, part of a Yorkshire Post series looking back at old football grounds, provides an evocative return to the Clive Road entrance to the West End Standing (Holgate) 25 years on from the stadium’s last match.
