An award-winning artist from DC and Marvel comics, Richard Piers Rayner is famed for his work as illustrator of Road to Perdition, on which the Oscar-winning motion film was based.

During 16 years as Middlesbrough Football Club’s artist-in-residence, the Dr Who graphic novels illustrator’s depictions of notable historical matches and Boro stars past and present were a regular feature of the club’s matchday programme.

In 2008, Richard Piers Rayner’s Middlesbrough FC: An Unseen History was published. The book represents the largest published collection of his work on Boro’s history and features many moments not snapped by the photographer. The chronological breadth of Richard Piers Rayner’s creations is evident in Art of Ayresome.  Featured works span the very first and last league goals scored at the famous old ground and include stories of the celebrated Carr brothers and the Boro’s own ‘three musketeers’, all told in a unique comic book style.
