Former Boro captain George Boateng will be joining Danny Mills and Franck Queudrue at the Riverside Stadium to celebrate the 15 year anniversary of that unforgettable afternoon in Cardiff, with the evening close to a sell out.
Boro’s Events Department are delighted to announce an evening of nostalgia on Thursday February 28: 128 Years Later… 15 Years On.
Hosted by Sky Sports North-East reporter Keith Downie, supporters young and old are invited to relive the magic of the day with inside stories from the changing room leading up to the final and the big day itself from defensive duo Danny Mills and Franck Queudrue*, as well as ex-Boro captain George Boateng.
Stories will include the nerve-wracking penalty shootouts against Everton and Tottenham, inflicting Arsenal’s first home domestic defeat in 30 games thanks to Juninho’s goal in the semi-final and of course, the big day itself where ‘Boro were 2-nil up inside eight minutes thanks to Joseph Job’s opener and that infamous penalty from Bolo Zenden.
We’ll be asking what the thoughts were following that goal from Kevin Davies and the feeling when Mike Riley blew the final whistle and Boro’s first trophy in 128 years was handed over, ensuing wild celebrations in Cardiff and Teesside!
