It was a proud moment for Alex Pattison when the Academy player was presented with an award by Aitor Karanka and Craig Liddle this week.
The goal scored by the youngster in a 3-0 win away to Manchester United won him the LFE (League Football Education) Goal of the Month for September.
"It was a special moment for me to receive the award from Aitor and Craig, it means a lot to me," says the 17-year-old. "I remember the goal, it seems a few people do!
"I made my way from the halfway line and linked up with a couple of the lads. The ball bounced once, I looked up and saw the goalkeeper off his line and went for it with a volley."
Darlington-born Pattison is naturally hoping the award will be the first of many in his career, but he's keeping his feet on the ground.
"I've scored six so far this season, but it's not just about that, I feel my game has come on a lot this year and I have to thank Craig a lot for that.
"It seems every level of the club is doing well at the moment, there's a real good feeling around the place and we all feel a part of it."
