Hayden Hackney and Rumarn Burrell scored the goals in a 2-1 win at Heritage Park on Friday evening, leaving the Teessiders in fourth place.

As things stand, Boro are level on points with second-place Manchester United, who travel to Swansea tonight, and Stoke City in third, with the Potters hosting table-toppers West Ham this evening.

Top scorer Ben Liddle wasn't available for Graeme Lee's side - he made the matchday squad for the first team the following day - but Hayden Coulson did feature for an hour on his return from injury.

The next match for Boro's U23s is a journey up the road to Newcastle a week today.

Elsewhere, Boro's U18s were denied three points by a late Manchester United leveller on Saturday lunchtime.

Isiah Cornet curled in the opener in the first half before Anthony Elanga scored for home side United to claim a point.

It's cup action for Mark Tinkler's side later this week with a trip to Derby County in the Premier League Cup on Saturday.
