Seventeen-year-old Wood, the club's youngest-ever player when he debuted in the Carabao Cup in 2018, was handed his first league minutes in a Boro shirt by long-term admirer Jonathan Woodgate last night, replacing the injured Dael Fry and helping us battle back for a point.

The Ingleby Barwick youngster is the latest in a long line to do our Academy proud.

Fry and Marcus Tavernier have passed 100 and 50 career appearances respectively this season, while Aynsley Pears, Hayden Coulson, Djed Spence, Ben Liddle, Stephen Walker and Tyrone O'Neill have all made their Boro league debuts.

Lewis Wing, who linked up with Boro from Shildon in 2017 and was a regular for our Under-23s, has also had a prominent part to play.

Patrick Reading was included in the senior squad for the second time last night, an experience also afforded to Sol Brynn, Connor Malley and Hayden Hackney during the campaign.

Others are picking up senior experience elsewhere, Brad James and Mitchell Curry on loan at Gateshead, Zach Hemming at Blyth Spartans, and Sam Stubbs and Enes Mahmutovic in the Netherlands with ADO Den Haag and MVV Maastricht.
