Aitor Karanka says that Adam Forshaw will make his mark on the Premier League after the midfielder signed an extended four-year contract on Friday.
Forshaw has featured in all three of Boro's games this season, replacing the injured Marten de Roon for the club's Premier League return against Stoke City, and playing the full 90 minutes in last weekend's Wear-Tees derby.
Karanka says that the Everton Academy graduate has a big part to play for Boro this season.
"I am really pleased with his contract but also his performances," Karanka said.
"Adam is the kind of player who deserves it.
"When you know him you know he is more than capable of playing in the Premier League. He has shown everyone already what he can do."
Boro's Head Coach admits that it has been tough for Forshaw to nail down a starting spot during his time on Teesside, but has praised the midfielder's character and commitment.
"When he came here I knew how good he was," Karanka said.
"But it was difficult for him to play because when he came here Grant [Leadbitter] and [Adam] Clayton were playing really well.
"He is the kind of player who always wants to play. He doesn't care if it's one minute or 90, he goes on to the pitch with the same intensity.
"His attitude every single day, and his character, is amazing. He is always trying to learn and to do his best for the team."
