Aitor Karanka says that Boro can learn valuable lessons from a first defeat of the Premier League season to Crystal Palace.

Goals from Christian Benteke and Wilfried Zaha, either side of Dani Ayala's header, handed the visiting Eagles all three points at the Riverside.

Boro's Head Coach feels that his side have much to gain from the experience.

"If we don't play with our intensity and style, which we didn't in the first 45 minutes, it is the Premier League and we are going to pay," Karanka said.

"We have lost the game today but we can't forget we are in a good position.

"I think it's a really good game to learn, and we have to think about the future.

Karanka says that Boro must draw on that experience as the season progresses.

"I am really pleased with the squad and players that we have," he said.

"Now, we have to prepare for next Saturday's game against Everton.

"I told [the players] after the game we are in a good position and we have to keep going."
