Aitor Karanka says his side are far better placed than last season as the race for promotion to the Premier League heads towards its final lap.

Boro went down at Blackburn in midweek - one of the club's games in hand over closest rivals Hull and Burnley - but Karanka's side still have an extra game over Burnley and are level on points with Hull City.

"Tuesday was another game less," said Karanka "We're in a good position.

"Last season we were worse off than we are now. We have a good game against Wolves on Friday so I'm calm because I trust this squad and we have to keep going.

"I would like to have had a game on Wednesday but I have to prepare as well as I can to win the game on Friday."

Grant Leadbitter was brought off with a suspected hamstring injury in the second half and Karanka says the injury was being assessed.
