Antonio Conte echoed the praise of Steve Agnew for the Boro fans after Monday's loss to Chelsea.

The 3-0 defeat means Boro will be playing Championship football next season.

At the full-time whistle, Conte applauded the travelling fans at Stamford Bridge - citing their unwavering backing as the reason he came to English football.

"In this case, it's important to celebrate your win and it means for us we are close to winning the title," Conte said.

"But it's great to see a team that got relegated fight with all their strength - and to see their fans clapping the players and them staying behind to clap them back.

"This situation happens only in England. In Italy it's difficult to see a team being relegated. This must be an example for other countries.

"I felt in my heart to go and clap these fans and tell every single player good luck."
