Goals from David Nugent and Julien de Sart ensured Boro brought the curtain down on the Marbella training camp with a 2-0 win against Saudi Arabian champions Al-Ahli.

Two goals in four second half minutes settled a game that was played beneath the high noon sun on the Costa del Dol.

Those searing temperatures made for testing conditions and that in itself was a challenge for the Boro players.

It took 20 minutes for the first real opening of the game and Cristhian Stuani got up well at the back post to meet a Carlos de Pena cross, but his header was wide of the mark.

Boro were the better side in possession and another chance came before the half-hour when De Pena picked out Adam Jackson from a corner, but his header was wide of the mark.

It was Julien de Sart who twice almost broke the deadlock shortly before half-time. His first strike from distance brought an acrobatic save from the Al-Ahli goalkeeper and the ball fell to him again on the edge of the box from the resultant corner, but he was denied by a full stretch save.

De Sart also went close at the start of the second period when he forced the Al-AhLi goalkeeper into making another good save following another strike from distance.

The opening goal eventually came, though, shortly before the hour mark. Viktor Fischer was the provider, driving a low cross into the box, and Nugent arrived to convert from close range.

A second goal came on 68 minutes and de Sart, denied three times already, was able to find space to head towards goal before delivering a good finish into the far corner.

That proved to be the last meaningful action for the starting XI with Aitor Karanka making 11 changes for the final 20 minutes, a reshuffle that saw Alvaro Negredo and Jordan Rhodes partnering each other up front.

Boro finished the game the stronger of the two sides, but there were no further chances as the squad ended the week in Spain with a win.
