Boro Academy’s Dr Tom Prichard has been praised after his quick intervention help save a life at St James’ Park over the weekend.
Play was stopped for around 20 minutes of Newcastle United's match against Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday after a home supporter suffered a cardiac arrest in the stands.
Dr Prichard, who works part-time with Boro’s Academy as well as at North Tees Hospital, was among the spectators for the afternoon - but quickly stepped in among a number of medical staff at the scene, Newcastle’s own club doctor arriving to assist with the aid of a defibrillator.
Newcastle released a statement after the game resumed revealing the supporter had been successfully stabilised inside St James’ before being transported to hospital.
Further reports have told how the supporters is awake and responsive, with the treatment they received inside the stadium having helped to save their life.
Defibrillation equipment is installed at the Riverside in both the West and East Stands.
