Boro Head Coach Aitor Karanka has confirmed that Rhys Williams and Jonathan Woodgate are back in training with his first team squad.
Australian international Williams has been sidelined for almost 12 months due to an Achilles injury while club captain Woodgate hasn't featured since the Capital One Cup victory at Oldham in August.
"They've both trained with us this week which is good news," said Aitor. "They could be our 'transfer window' signings."
The return to training of Williams is a massive boost for a player who has endured a lengthy road to recovery since first suffering the injury against Wigan Athletic last January. The injury also cost him a place at last summer's World Cup.
He is likely to feature for the Under-21s against Aston Villa at Burton Albion on Monday.
