The 23-year-old spent a largely successful time with Motherwell in the Scottish Premier last season having previously spent brief loan spells with Oxford United and Bradford City where he made one appearance for each club.

So far he has made three appearances for Boro's first team. 

Ripley made 40 appearances last season for a Motherwell side that finished in fifth place.

New Oldham manager Stephen Robinson was assistant manager at Motherwell last season, while former Boro player Lee Turnbull has recently been appointed to the backroom staff at (formerly Boundary) Park.
