Clear chances were a scare resource in the first half of a keenly contested game.

Hayden Coulson and Jo Wheatley combined well to win the game's first corner with just eight minutes played, before Wheatley and Alex Pattison set up Coulson to whip in a cross that just evaded Bradley Fewster as Boro looked bright.

Wolves were tough, physical and uncompromising, but they could play too and with 18 minutes played Christian Herc saw a shot from over 25 yard deflected just wide.

Boro had penalty appeals turned down when Fewster appeared to be pushed when shaping to meet a cross from out deep on the right, but it was Wolves who missed a clear chance to take the lead when Michael Zyro miss-hit a cross from Jordan Graham eight yards out.

Good work and a well-struck shot from Marcus Tavernier had Wolves stretched and brought goalkeeper Jack Ruddy into action, then Wolves broke quickly and the lively Graham was inches away from edging the visitors in front when cutting through from the left forcing Aynsley Pears into a save right on the goal line.

The final chance of the first half fell to James Husband, but a low shot from the left flew untouched across the face of goal.

There was an early chance for Boro at the start of the second half when Callum Johnson rose to head just wide as Wolves failed to deal with a left-wing corner.

Mikael Soisalo then shot just wide and Aaron Hayden saw a close-range header deflected just over as the game opened up with a chance at either end.

Another chance went begging for Boro when Jordan McGhee headed a good chance wide, set up by a left-wing corner won when a wicked Johnson cross was deflected behind.

The next chance fell to Wolves as Zyro flashed a header across the face of goal and just wide, before a fine challenge from Johnson denied sub Will Randall.

There was no calling which way this tight game would go entering the final ten minutes, until hesitancy from Dael Fry allowed Donovan Wilson the chance to intercept. He got the run of the ball in a one v one with Pears and tucked home.

As Boro pressed for an equaliser the visitors almost added another, but Daniel Armstrong was just off target from close range.
