Boro goalkeeper Brad Guzan is set to return to the USA later this year and will join up with Major League Soccer new-boys Atlanta United.

The chance for Guzan to return to the USA and continue his career has presented itself in recent weeks and, recognising the opportunity for him and his family, he will depart in the summer with the best wishes of all connected with Middlesbrough Football Club.

Guzan joins Atlanta on a "multi-year contract" via Major League Soccer's Allocation Process after discussions between the player and MFC.

Courtesy of the MLS Expansion Priority Draft, Atlanta United held the No. 1 allocation ranking and exercised that spot to acquire Guzan, who was designated under the league's 2017 Allocation Ranking List.

Guzan, who began in his career in the MLS with Chivas USA and has won 53 caps for the USA since making his debut in 2006, will remain a key member of Aitor Karanka's Boro squad as the season continues.
