Augsburg, from the Bavarian region of Germany, have been playing in the top flight of German football for six years and last season finished 13th, just 11 points from a European place.

The season before they played Liverpool in the Europa League, losing by the only goal in a two-legged tie in the last 32 of the competition.

Among their ranks is Alfreð Finnbogason who many fans may remember following his exploits with Iceland in the 2016 European Championships, and former Sunderland striker Ji Dong-won.

Augsburg play at home to PSV Eindhoven the week after playing us. The German Bundesliga begins two weeks after the Championship, with Augsburg playing away to Hamburg in their opening game.

The game at the Riverside is scheduled for Saturday July 29 with a 3pm kick-off. Ticket news will follow in due course, but it is expected that prices will be £10 adults and £5 concessions.
