We were drawn away to fellow Championship side Aston Villa in the draw which was made early on Thursday morning.

It means two trips to Villa Park in successive midweeks for Boro fans. We have a league fixture there on Tuesday September 12, with the cup tie scheduled to be played the following week.

It will be the first time we have played Villa in a competitive fixture since a 1-1 draw at the Riverside in May 2009 and our first trip to Villa Park since November 2008 - we won 2-1 - though we did meet in a friendly prior to the start of last season.

It will be the fifth time we have met in the League cup, but first since October 1994. Every tie has been decided by a single goal, unfortunately always in Villa's favour.

All bar one of the meetings has been at Villa Park, the exception coming in September 1987 when ties at that stage of the competition were decided over two legs.

Confirmation of the date for this tie and ticket prices will be released as soon as confirmed.

Adding spice to the tie is the potential of Albert Adomah, Stewart Downing, Rudy Gestede and Adama Traore coming up against a former club.

Villa reached this stage of the competition following up a 2-1 win away to Colchester with a 4-1 home win over Wigan on Tuesday night.
