The win for our U23s was the first in the competition this season, with three points taking us up to second in group G.

Graeme Lee's side raced into a three-goal lead inside nine minutes, and the deadlock was broken with a minute played, as Stephen Wearne converted Isaiah Jones' cross.

Walker then netted a five-minute brace to give Boro a three-goal buffer, latching on to Tyrone O'Neill's pass to finish off for his first before cutting in from the left and curling home into the top right corner for his second.

Boro added to their tally a couple minutes shy of the half hour mark as captain Ben Liddle, who made his first team debut at the weekend, had an attempt saved by the Palace stopper, only for Jones to turn home the rebound.

The goals continued to flow during the first 45, however it was the Eagles on this occasion as Rob Street got the hosts on the scoresheet.

Boro's four-goal advantage was restored a couple of minutes before the half-time whistle. Liddle, who's been in red hot scoring form in the PL2, added the fifth for the visitors.

The second period wasn't as explosive as the first when it came to goals, with Liddle going close to a second, but his curling effort on goal was tipped over the bar.

The U23s return to PL2 action next Monday with a visit to Aston Villa (7pm), while the next Premier League Cup outing comes in the New Year away to Burnley.
