Both goals came in the first half, with Graeme Lee’s side opening the scoring with 11 minutes played through O’Neill.

The advantage was doubled nine minutes later when Boro were awarded a penalty after Isiah Jones was brought down by the Dunston goalkeeper, and Liddle made no mistake from 12 yards.

It remained scoreless in the second half, but Boro held on to get their pre-season campaign off to a good start - the first win under the stewardship of new U23s Lead Coach Lee.

The U23s have another local trip in their second pre-season friendly on Saturday July 20 when they take on Bishop Auckland.
