Boro fans are being given the chance to pay their respects to Alastair Brownlee on his final journey through the town.

The broadcasting legend, who will be the subject of a tribute evening at the Riverside on Tuesday, will be laid to rest at a private funeral on Thursday afternoon after losing his battle with cancer.

Fans are being invited to wear a splash of red and to pay their respects along the route of the cortege which will travel along Linthorpe Road, Borough Road, the Riverside Stadium and Ayresome Street.

The cortege will move along Linthorpe Road from Linthorpe village shortly after 1pm. It will turn right along Borough Road and is scheduled to arrive at the Riverside around 1.20pm, departing at 1.30pm. It will drive inside the stadium alongside the pitch and in front of the West Stand.

The cortege will travel back along Borough Road, turning left up Linthorpe Road then right into Ayresome Street, pausing close to the site where Ayresome Park used to be.

From there the cortege will proceed to a private family funeral.

Fans will be allowed to gather in the West Stand of the Riverside from 12 noon. Highlights of some of Alastair's best moments will be shown on the big screen prior to the arrival of the cortege.

Free cark parking for the event will be available in Car Park E.

Kindly note that, as a mark of respect, the Club Shop and Ticket Office will close at 1.00pm until the cortege has left the Riverside.

The family wish to thank everyone for their tremendous support at this incredibly difficult time and ask that their privacy for the funeral service is respected.

They are also considering a memorial service which would be open to all, whilst details of a Just Giving charity page will be available soon.
