With Boro in FA Youth Cup action tonight at Stevenage (7pm), we've been taking a look back at our finest hour in the competition.
Less than two months after the club celebrated a first ever senior cup final victory - when Steve McClaren's team won the Carling Cup in February 2004 - we went on to pick up another piece of silverware for the first time in our history.
Our Under-18s followed in the footsteps of the senior players by winning the FA Youth Cup in some style, with a two-legged victory over an Aston Villa side including names such as Craig Gardner, Gary Cahill and Gabby Agbonlahor.
A Boro team featuring the likes of Ross Turnbull, Andrew Davies and Chris Brunt had suffered heartbreak in the previous season's final, losing out to Manchester United.
But our Academy youngsters made no mistake the following season, a 3-0 first leg win at Villa Park followed up by a 1-0 win in the return at the Riverside in front of more than 16,000.
The successful FA Youth Cup winning squad included David Knight, Tony McMahon, Peter Masters, Matthew Bates, David Wheater, Andrew Taylor, Gary Liddle, Anthony Peacock, James Morrison, Jason Kennedy, Tom Craddock, Danny Read, Chris Pennock, Lee Cattermole, Josh Walker and Seb Hines.
