They may be 1000s of miles from home, but a very special group of Boro fans had good reason to celebrate as they watched the Bournemouth game last weekend...
For the Boro North America fans it was their seventh anniversary since coming together and a celebration of the remarkable progress the supporters’ group has been made.
Founded by proud Teessider Ellen Sowerby back in September 2013, the group has and currently has 248 members, from 141 cities and towns, across 35 US States and 4 Canadian provinces.
The group ranges from Fort McMurray in the north to Fort Lauderdale in the south, and boasts plenty of Boro fans in between including both the east and west coasts of the US.
Robbie Mustoe, Dimi, Gary Hamilton, Colin Cooper, Kay Murray and Chris Kamara were among those to send birthday messages while George Saville, Bernie Slaven, Franck Queudrue, Gary Pallister, Stuart Ripley, and Neil Maddison all made appearances during their legendary lockdown happy hour parties.
Ellen tells us the seventh birthday Zoom party was a “bunch of ex-pat Teessiders getting together and having a few beers together” in typical Boro North America style.
“I formed the group seven years ago,” said Ellen. “Originally, it was meant just for my few US/Canadian based friends, but grew organically. We’re on the MFC Supporters page and we’re on Twitter. We’d love to hear from any ex-pats over here.”
