The left-back, 21, commits his future to the club after emerging as part of Boro’s first team picture this season.

“I’ve always had a lot of belief in Hayden, he did really well in pre-season and has taken his chance with the first team,” said Head Coach Jonathan Woodgate.

“He’s an example to the young players in our Academy and we believe he has a great future at this football club."

Gateshead-born Coulson joined our Academy at Under-13 level, and represented England at various youth levels.

The full-back had spells on loan with St Mirren and Cambridge United last season before making his first team debut for Boro the opening day of this campaign at Luton Town.

After recovering from an injury sustained in the first home match of the season against Brentford, Coulson has impressed as a regular in Jonathan Woodgate’s team, playing the full 90 minutes in six of Boro’s last seven games.
