Academy youngster Hayden Hackney has committed his future to the club, signing a new two-year deal.

As well as featuring regularly for Boro's Under-23s, the 2020/21 campaign saw the 18-year-old midfielder on the fringes of the senior squad, making his full first team debut away to Brentford in the Emirates FA Cup back in January before his league bow on the final day against Wycombe Wanderers.

Redcar-born Hackney joined Boro's Academy as an Under-10, and made history when he scored the winning goal for our development side in the Checkatrade (Football League) Trophy at Burton Albion in 2018, the club's first ever victory in the competition.

He is the latest in a string of promising young players to extend their journey with the club in recent weeks, with Josh Wells, Isiah Cornet, Jack Robinson, Cain Sykes, Max Metcalfe and Jeremy Sivi all penning professional contracts.
