Boro were pegged back for a second consecutive 2-2 draw when Hull City came to the Riverside on Sunday.
Marcus Tavernier opened the scoring with his first of the season before Ashley Fletcher doubled the advantage, capping a wonderful team goal also involving Marvin Johnson and strike partner Britt Assombalonga.
But Johnson was to see red for a late challenge on Eric Lichaj, a moment that would change the course of a match in which Boro had been well on top.
Hull City made their man advantage count in the second half, Jarrod Bowen scoring twice in three minutes to tie things up at 2-2.
