Burnley’s Under-23s inflicted defeat on Boro’s development side at the County Ground on Friday evening.

Stephen Walker, on loan at Tranmere, started up front for Graeme Lee’s side while midfielder Jack Stott made his first start at this level.

Anthony Glennon hit the crossbar for the Clarets before Michael Mellon made the breakthrough for the home side, then Boro’s George Gitau put through his own net in an attempt to prevent Mellon adding to his tally two minutes later.

Bobby Thomas was sent off for Burnley in the second half, and Jeremy Sivi missed a late penalty but there were to be no further additions to the scoreline in Leyland.
