There was nothing to separate the Under-18 sides of Manchester United and Boro after 90 minutes and six goals at the Red Devils’ Carrington training base.

Boro spent the majority of the game with ten men following the dismissal of Ben Beals, and were only pegged back in the last ten minutes as United claimed a draw.

Mark Tinkler’s young Teessiders raced into a two goal lead in the contest, Sonny Finch netting an early penalty and defender Frankie Whelan making it two shortly after the twenty-minute mark.

United hit back a minute later through Sam Murray, but Boro’s two goal lead was restored just a minute after that thanks to midfield man Jack Stott.

Then came the sending off for Boro defender Beals for a second yellow card, and United capitalised to make it 3-2 before the break with a penalty of their own.

Tinkler’s side held on to their lead for the bulk of the second half, but with less than ten to play, Kobbie Mainoo netted to snatch a draw for the Red Devils.
