Our Under-23s were edged out 2-1 at Reading on Monday evening in a closely fought contest.

Graeme Lee's were ahead inside five minutes and had already missed a penalty when Joe Gibson scored the first goal of the night with an excellent run and finish.

Reading goalkeeper Matt Rowley was the hero and the villain of the missed spot-kick moments earlier. Rowley was handed a yellow for conceding the penalty, but then denied Isaac Fletcher from 12 yards.

Rowley also made a good save to prevent William Kokolo from furthering Boro's advantage on the half-hour, but the home side were on level terms four minutes later courtesy of Jack Senga.

Claudio Osorio clipped the bar before the half-time whistle while Gibson came close to restoring Boro's advantage in the second half.

It was Osorio who settled matters, though, 15 minutes from time when he returned a Boro clearance beyond the reach of Max Metcalfe and into the back of the net.
