Jonny Howson has taken up the option of a one-year contract extension with the club...
The 32-year-old is now under contract until June 30 2021 after opting to extend his stay on Teesside.
Howson has made 133 appearances for the club since joining from Norwich City in the summer of 2017, and is enjoying his best season in a Boro shirt.
Having signed as a midfielder, the Leeds-born player has been utilised as a central defender and as a full-back this season, although he reverted to a midfield role for Saturday’s 2-0 win at Stoke City.
Former head coach Jonathan Woodgate couldn’t speak highly enough of his contribution to the team during his tenure at the helm and the player is described as a ‘model professional’ by almost all who have worked with him.
You can hear from Jonny later this week on mfc.co.uk.
