Marcos Abad was involved in his first training session as Boro's new interim goalkeeping coach on Tuesday evening as Aitor Karanka's team took to the pitch in Spain.

An experienced coach, Abad has joined Boro from La Liga side Elche, where he spent seven years.

A former colleague at of Victor Orta at the Estadio Manuel Martinez Valero, Abad has come in to replace Eric Steele who left the club last week due to injury following a short stint at Rockliffe Park.

Steele joined Karanka's coaching set-up back in December to stand in for the also injured Leo Percovich but has been forced to step down prematurely with a knee injury.

Percovich has also made the trip to Southern Spain for warm-weather training where he and the Boro squad met up with Abad following their
arrival on Tuesday afternoon.

Abad will return to Teesside with the squad for the remainder of the season and is set to take his place in the dugout for Saturday's game against Everton at the Riverside
