Marcus Browne took time out of his re-hab programme this week to join the launch of a charity walking challenge in North Yorkshire.

The 23-year-old met children at Leyburn Primary School when he joined Lady Valerie Bolton, who came up with the idea for Every Step You Take, a 10,000km walking challenge in support of Young Minds, a young person’s mental health charity, and Hope and Homes for Children, an orphanage charity.

"It's a fantastic idea from Lady Bolton," said Marcus. "It's raising money for two very important charities and it's a great way of doing it because it's showing the importance the benefits of being active and getting outside.

"Being outside and being active has played a huge part in my recovery, and hopefully the people of the area will get behind this, get out in the fresh air, and raise some funds."

The participants, who pay £10 each to take part, will complete a 1km circular track at the Old Deer Park on the Bolton Estate, with the route open between 7.30am and 7pm. The challenge Wednesday runs 6 October.
