Martin Braithwaite came off the bench for Denmark on Saturday, who opened their World Cup campaign with a 1-0 win over Peru.
The Boro forward, who spent the second half of the season on loan at Bordeaux, was introduced in the second half, replacing Pione Sisto on 67 minutes.
Peru could have taken the lead in the first half when they were awarded a penalty following consultation with the video assistant referee, however Christian Cueva sent the spot kick over the crossbar.
Denmark went in front when Tottenham’s Christian Eriksen sent Yussuf Poulsen through on goal, whose neat finish beat the Peru goalkeeper.
After Braithwaite came on for his World Cup bow, Denmark were forced to defend for much of the remaining minutes of the second half, but they were able to repel any Peru danger to hold on for three points in their opening game of the tournament.
