Middlesbrough have secured the signing of striker Patrick Bamford from Chelsea for an undisclosed fee.

The 23-year-old has penned a four-and-a-half-year deal to return to Teesside to further strengthen Aitor Karanka's squad.

Bamford impressed during a loan spell at Boro two seasons ago, when he scored 19 goals and played a key role as Karanka's squad reached the Championship Play-Off final.

The striker was also named as the Sky Bet Championship Player of the Year in the most successful spell of his fledgling career so far.

Bamford has since spent time on loan with Crystal Palace, Norwich City and Burnley.

The former England Under-21 international becomes Karanka's second January acquisition, following the arrival of Rudy Gestede in the first week of January.
