BORO legend Bernie Slaven says he's excited about the influx of new players at the club, and believes that the team has a good chance of making the Play-Offs this year.
The club's ex-striker said he is confident that Boro have a big and talented enough squad to cover for the likely injuries and suspensions that occur over the course of the season.
"I said a few weeks ago that I thought we needed about five or six players, now we have that I think we're good enough to make the Play-Offs," said Bernie.
"We do need the rub of the green and a bit of fortune though. The squad we have now is big enough to make an able replacement which probably isn't something that we've had in the past.
"We need to get through the duration of winter and hopefully we'll be nudging into the play-offs come January."
It's been well-documented that many believe consistency is key to a team's success in this division, and Bernie shares the same opinion, claiming that those who go up also need a bit of luck along the way.
He said: "I think consistency is very important - but you also need a bit of luck and cohesion.
"For me, different players coming in and out of the team all the time is unsettling. The top boys can get away with it, but we're Middlesbrough in the championship and we need a stable 11.
"So hopefully the manager will give these boys a run of games because we saw that with Mogga that chopping and changing the team regularly doesn't work."
On deadline day, Boro landed their long-term transfer target and Belgian golden boy - Jelle Vossen.
Bernie expressed his excitement surrounding the arrival of Vossen, but stressed that the striker will need time to settle before fans expect too much of him.
"Vossen jumps out at me as the one I'm looking forward to seeing.
"I know we've been on his tail for a long time so I'm glad we've finally got him. His track record is fantastic, but playing in Belgium is different so we need to give the guy time to adapt.
"In the past we've brought overseas players in and they've failed after costing a lot of money, so some fans may be sceptical, but every player is different.
"He may be mentally tough but he may also take time. As an ex striker he excites me so let's hope he hits the ground running."
